Maternity Reflexology – Improve Labour

Research has consistently shown that regular maternity reflexology treatments during pregnancy significantly shortens labour, reduces the need for analgesia, reduces medical interventions and medical inductions (Notha,G 1994; Valiani, N et al 2010)

Maternity reflexology mainly focuses on balancing and stabilising the endocrine system therefore harmonising the hormones produced which are naturally required for birthing, natural endorphin release for pain relief and lactation for successful breastfeeding.

Common points emphasised during Antenatal sessions include:

  • Thyroid reflex – To help keep metabolism on track
  • Lymphatic drainage reflexex – To prevent odema, support vitality of the lymphatic system, fluid balance and remove toxins and impurities
  • Pancreas and Endocrine reflexes – To encourage normal secretions and prevent gestational diabetes
  • Pelvic area reflexes – To assist with aches and pains associated with the expanding uterus
  • Circulatory system reflexes – To maintain and encourage normal blood pressure and prevent pre-eclampsia
  • Digestive system reflexes – To aid bowel function and relieve constipation
  • Sciatica nerve, spine and pelvic reflexes – To alleviate back and hip pain / discomfort
  • Uterus and pelvic floor reflexes – For preparation of birthing

Specialised treatment plans can be devised to meet individual needs to help alleviate other pregnancy related disorders and discomforts.
