Reiki is a hands-on healing technique and can be traced back to Buddha and is known to have been practiced in Tibet over 2,500 years ago. For some unknown reasons its popularity diminished and ceased to be practiced until the famous Dr Mikao Usui rediscovered it in Japan in the 1870's.

Reiki is versatile. It can enhance all sorts of areas of life. Including self-development and awareness, support and maintenance of well-being and health. Reiki is most popularly used as a hands-on healing technique. A scanning technique can also be used which still has the power to channel the Reiki energy. It is a treatment that can be used alone or it can be incorporated naturally into other therapies.

Reiki is a simple, non-intrusive experience channeling energy, and help treat numerous physical and mental problems. The benefits of Reiki as a stress reducer cannot be over-emphasised. It can help by assisting in the alleviation of symptoms whilst helping the person back to a more healthy state. It can also increase vitality levels and can alleviate pain therefore reduce the need for painkillers and other drugs.

You do not have to be ill to benefit from a treatment of Reiki. It is also a beneficial tonic that can assist you to maintain good health, energy and vitality.

Reiki should not be used on broken bones until they have set. Reiki should not be used as a substitute of medical care but can be used as part of a recovery program or as a complimentary therapy.

The experience of Reiki is subjective, changeable, and sometimes very subtle. People often report they experience heat in the practitioner's hands, but sometimes the practitioner's hands feel refreshingly cool. Other common experiences are subtle pulsations or cascading waves of pulsations or tingling throughout the body. Some people report visualising colours during the treatment.

People often comment how comforting they find the experience Reiki to be. Some people fall into a deep, sleep like meditative state. Sometimes the experience of Reiki is dramatic, while for other people, the first session in particular may be uneventful, although they feel somehow better afterward. The most common experience is an almost immediate release of stress and a feeling of deep relaxation. Reiki is cumulative and even people who don't notice much the first time usually have progressively deeper experiences if they continue. Besides the immediate experience of the Reiki, you may notice other changes that continue to unfold as the day goes on: perhaps stronger digestion, a sense of being more centred and poised and less reactive, and sleeping deeply that night.

You remain fully clothed during the session and will be invited to lie down on a couch. Side effects are not always evident but because the body is naturally detoxifying side effects may include lethargy, frequency in urinating, altered bowel movements, and flu like symptoms. As with all treatments these symptoms can last up 24 hours. It is advisable to increase fluids, avoid caffeine and alcohol and have a light diet following treatment to avoid and alleviate such symptoms.
